Adobe (NASDAQ) is set to launch a new generative AI-powered tool for video creation and editing later this year, marking a significant expansion of its offerings for creative professionals. The company announced on Wednesday that the tool, called Adobe Firefly Video Model, will be available in a limited beta release.
The new tool will complement Adobe’s existing Firefly suite, which already enables users to generate still images, designs, and vector graphics using AI. With the Firefly Video Model, Adobe is entering the competitive market for AI-driven video generation, which includes other notable players such as OpenAI’s Sora and Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion.
According to Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s vice president of generative AI, the tool can create a five-second video clip based on a single text or image prompt. Users can further customize their clips by specifying camera angles, motion, zoom, and panning.
“We’ve invested heavily to ensure the model meets the quality expectations of videographers and offers superior prompt understanding compared to other AI video models,” said Costin in an interview with Reuters.
Adobe emphasized that the AI model is trained exclusively on content from public domains or licensed sources. It does not use any content from Adobe customers. Instead, it utilizes Adobe Stock’s database, which contains 400 million images, illustrations, and videos that are curated to avoid any intellectual property or trademark issues.
Additionally, Adobe will release Generative Extend, a feature within its Premiere Pro video editing software. This tool allows users to extend existing video clips by two seconds, seamlessly generating new content to fill gaps in footage. First introduced in a preview back in April, the tool has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from customers, according to Costin.
With these advancements, Adobe aims to solidify its position in the growing market for AI-powered creative tools, catering to professionals seeking to enhance their workflows with cutting-edge technology.
