Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States during a ceremony led by Chief Justice John Roberts. JD Vance took the oath as vice president, administered by Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
In his inaugural speech, Trump outlined an agenda focused on sweeping changes to U.S. policy. Among the key priorities are ending birthright citizenship and declaring a national emergency at the southern border. The administration is also preparing to issue several pardons, including for individuals linked to the January 6 Capitol events. Trump announced the establishment of an External Revenue Service to collect and manage tariffs and taxes from foreign nations, emphasizing that these funds would directly benefit American citizens.
The event drew a mix of political, business, and cultural figures. Notable attendees included Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and several former presidents. Country music star Carrie Underwood performed “America the Beautiful” as part of the ceremony.
In one of his final acts in office, outgoing President Joe Biden granted a series of pardons. Among those pardoned were Gen. Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and lawmakers involved in the January 6 inquiry. Biden also issued preemptive pardons for close family members, including his brothers James and Frank and sister Valerie, along with their spouses.
